Phoenix /fēniks/: (in classical mythology) a unique bird inhabiting the Arabian Desert that burned itself on a funeral pyre before rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle.

This isn’t mythology, it’s war, and Hendy is left in the hands of Hell’s cruelest gatekeepers.

His team is killed before his very eyes, and despite his efforts to save them, he’s captured and subjected to merciless torture—losing virtually every piece of his identity but his pulse.

After his rescue, he returns home from Afghanistan, saddled with facing the daunting task of healing his physical scars as well as the invisible ones—his emotional demons.

Dr. Presley Cole isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. Embarking on a new journey, she makes it her mission to prove to Hendy that his life isn’t over; that he’s worthy of love.

Because sometimes even a phoenix needs help to rise…

Out of the Ashes.

★★★★★ Five Stars

I LOVED this story. Ex Navy Seal Hendy has survived an horrendous ordeal. He's battered but no where near broken, he's suffering from ptsd but doing what he can to accept what's happened to him. He's working on dealing with his issues rather than burying his head in the sand like a lot of others would do, and I loved the inner strength he portrays. He doesn't see himself for the man he is deep down anymore. He made my heart ache at times, especially with his self consciousness, and I couldn't help but want him to see the real Hendy.

Presley is a chiropractor/ naturopath and is determined to help Hendy get better. With an instant connection between them, they're both drawn to each other but nothing's ever simple, right? Doing everything she can to help Hendy while dealing with her own stuff, they soon form a friendship that seems to help them both move forward.

I've read all of RC Boldts previous books so I had certain expectations with this book. The reason I adore her work is because she has this real ness and depth to every single one of her characters. They're funny, sweet, loyal and they come to life as you read. They become friends you care about and this book was everything I hoped for and more. Not only do her characters continue to show those traits but this story is jam packed with emotions and feelings aswell as some lightheartedness (usually provided by Kane, who I'm already head over heels for) and of course there's plenty of sexual chemistry and hotness.
