Release Blitz...Cirque Act 2 by Ashleigh Giannoccaro

CIRQUE: ACT 2 by Ashleigh Giannoccaro
Without my box I can’t be me
Kidnapped by a clown close to the sea
He’s torn inside where one equals two
One I hate, the other I love true

Secrets and lies become alibis
Sivan is damaged, it’s in his eyes
Riddles unravel when you know who masters
Now Imogene’s only home is Masters

An eye playing spy held me together
When I broke, he broke, two ends of frayed tether
We’re joined by the past like twin souls in hell
Innocent angels molested, and fell

I escaped it, but need to go back.
To love the man with his face painted black.
The circus is known for its eternal magic
Our tent of freedom is simply tragic.

Once a little girl fell, then she fell for me
I’m a fool, and she’s a fool for me
There’s a clown inside us all; a purpose
But this life, it’s all just a circus.

4.5 stars

Following on from Act one, this continues Sivan and Imogene's story.

I loved Sivan in Act one. He's such a grubby, complex, unique character and I was dying to see his other personality come out more. Sivan is no longer content to be just Sivan. He's confused, intense, trying to find a balance in the madness that's surrounding him and he's taking Imogene along for the ride. This book is definitely darker than Act one. Sivan is darker, crueler and more obsessed with Imogene than ever before. There were times I hated him but knowing his confusion and pain makes it hard to keep that hate.

The one thing that I love about this book is the way it's so easy to picture Sivans circus. It's dark, dirty and grubby (I use that word a lot when describing this series, it just suits it so perfectly). There's this underlying layer of grime and dirt to it all. It made me feel a little like a voyeur. Peeking through the window alongside Sivan, feeling the excitement and shame, the disgust and conflict that he's feeling.

Imogene is another fantastic character. Thrown into a situation where she is been made to overcome her fears with the man she used to love, she really struggles to cope with her new reality.

These books are unique reads. Everyone hates clowns but these books might just make you change your mind. Ms Giannoccaro describes the scene so perfectly it really does feel like you're watching the show from the sidelines. The feelings of confusion, disgust, despair etc are portrayed superbly and their story really did suck me in.
