Series: White Monarch #1
Author: Jessica Hawkins
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 19, 2019

Blurb

“She is mine.” Three words from two different men.
A life, future, and love I don’t get to choose.

In the de la Rosa family, old grudges run deeper than loyalty, and betrayal is a three-letter word: war. But this feud isn’t between enemies. It’s between brothers. And I’m the prize.

I was born a princess among criminals. An untouchable among thieves. Heiress to a life others have killed for, and one I'd do anything to escape. I vowed not to leave without Diego, my first love and best friend, but if his ruthless brother has his way, I won’t leave at all. Cristiano de la Rosa is a man as big and bold as his legend. Once upon a time, he was our cartel’s best soldier . . . until he became my family’s worst enemy.

A man like Cristiano will bend fate to his will to get what he wants. Even if it means dragging me to hell—and tearing me from his brother's arms.

Title: Right Where I Want You
Author: Jessica Hawkins
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 28, 2018

Blurb

There’s a thin line between love and hate . . . and it cuts right through the middle of their office.

Bad boys? They run right over good girls like Georgina Keller.

But after a confidence-shattering breakup, she’s determined not to let anyone at her new workplace push her around—least of all the brooding creative director, a “bad boy of publishing” who’s made it clear she’s enemy #1.

Sebastian Quinn's taste for fast cars, late nights, and beautiful women may have gotten him to the top of a leading New York magazine, but the reputation that made him is suddenly threatening to end his career.

Georgina can help Modern Man shed its bad reputation, but in order to do that, she’ll have to start at the top—and no amount of rakish charm or inconvenient attraction will distract her.

Because if Sebastian gets her right where he wants her, it means she’s going down.

Excerpt

At the stadium’s concession stand, I took a tall stool, putting Georgina and I at eye level since she stood. “So, why didn’t you kiss François?” I asked. “Bad breath?”
She gasped into her hand. “My breath is fine.”
“I meant his. I’m sure yours is pure relish on a hotdog.”
She made a face. “Gross.”
“I happen to love relish,” I said. “But does François?”
Each time I said François with flourish, she flinched. I didn’t care. Something about him bugged me—I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
“We didn’t kiss because you interrupted us,” she pointed out.
“So? If I were in his position, and we both wanted that kiss, I wouldn’t let anyone stop me.”
Frank and I are clicking,” she said, scowling. “There was even mention of spending time at his summerhouse.”
“Hamptons?”
She coughed into her fist. “Boca Raton.”
The idea of Georgina spending a summer with him in Boca Raton was tragic enough that I almost smiled. I got the sense she was playing up the date. If it was so great, why wasn’t she sitting here with him? And why was I more relieved than smug about that? “Meanwhile, Justin and I will be clamming in Montauk.”
“You two should really just make it official and announce your love to the world.”
“But then I wouldn’t get to flirt with pretty girls.”
“For someone who pretends to have as much game as you,” she said, “I still haven’t seen you successfully flirt with any girls since I’ve known you.”
I smirked. “How do you know I’m not flirting with you right now?”

I love romances that go from hate to love, throw in the whole working together and I’m all over it.

Sebastian and Georgina don’t get off to a good start when Georgina is brought in to help get the magazine back to the top and Sebastian feels as though his toes are been stepped on. Everything about these two is absolute perfection. Their banter and chemistry and the depth of their character drew me in and quickly had me hooked. You get a real feel for the true person behind both Sebastian and George and the more I got to know them, the more I could relate to them which made them really easy to like. There’s also some brilliant supporting characters that I’d love to see more of (hint, hint).

This is another brilliant book from Ms Hawkins. It made me laugh, it made me swoon and it completely sucked me in, I couldn’t put this book down.

Release Blitz & Review...Lake + Manning by Jessica Hawkins

Lake + Manning (Something in the Way, 4)

Picture
Manning and I have what happily-ever-after is made of . . .
A home he built us on the unshakeable foundation we fought for.
A life of laughter carved out of heartache and betrayal.
A love story to stand the test of time.

But between a trust that can’t be broken, joy that can’t be bridled, and passion that would scorch the sun, the empty spaces are becoming more and more difficult to ignore . . .
Fears that keep Manning up at night as he slips from our bed.
Our complicated relationship with a man he respects and one I don't know how to forgive.
And a sprawling, beautiful home with one small room I'm afraid I'll never be able to fill.

Manning and I have what happily-ever-after is made of . . .
But I'll beg the heavens for just one thing more.

I went into this book with conflicting feelings. I felt kind of short changed with the way the previous book ended and I needed some closure after such an emotional, all consuming journey. I was left wanting more from Lake and Mannings life together even though I didn’t particularly like Manning, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to either of them. To say I was nervous going into this book would be an understatement. I adore this series, it’s one of my all time favourites but it’s also one of the few series I’ve read where the main male character hasn’t won me over. At all. So going in to this I wasn’t convinced Jessica Hawkins could change my mind about Manning this late in the game. Boy was I wrong. By the time I’d finished this book I was head over heels for him.

I’m going to assume everyone’s read the previous books (if not, you need these books in your life) and knows the epic journey Jessica Hawkins has taken us all on along with Lake and Manning. This book is the icing on an already spectacular cake. It gave me the insight I probably missed in the other books (due to my own determination to always be team Lake) and opened my eyes to the wonder that is Manning. The star of this series for me has and always will be Lake. Even when she irritated me, there’s just something about her character that’s so genuine that it’s easy to forgive her just about anything.

As sad as I am to finish this series, I can truthfully say I’m ok with saying goodbye to Lake and Manning. I got the closure and answers I felt I needed and this series will always be a particular favourite of mine. I can’t recommend this series enough. It really is an emotional rollercoaster.

Release Blitz & Review...Move The Stars by Jessica Hawkins

Move the Stars, the highly anticipated conclusion to the Something in the Way series by Jessica Hawkins.

LAKE: It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. If I’d known then what I do now, would I have kept on walking? Manning was older, darker, experienced—and I’d trusted him when he said the story would only ever be about us. I’d held those words close and challenged fate, but I had lost.

A part of me is still that sixteen-year-old girl squinting up at Manning, but no matter how far I fall or high I soar, I’ll always be a bird without her bear and nothing without him.

MANNING: When I close my eyes, I can no longer see her. The decisions I made were to push Lake in the right direction—away from me. But now that she’s gone, would I have made those same choices?

I’d walked away like I was supposed to. I’d kept my distance. I’d bent over backward to keep Lake pure, but she’s no longer that girl, and I don’t know if I can stay away anymore. I only know I don’t want to. She’s still everything I want and nothing I should ever have, but if anyone can move the stars, it’s her great bear in the sky.

This is one of the hardest reviews I've had to write. I've been dying for this book. After been taken on such an epic, angsty journey with the previous two books I was more than desperate for the conclusion to Lakes story.

I struggled quite a bit with this book. After the events that took place earlier in the series, I was already conflicted over my feelings about Manning and this book didn't make them any clearer. Theres events that happen that I had trouble accepting and too much has happened in the past that I'm not quite ready to forgive him for yet. My feelings about Manning have swung back and forth so many times reading this series. I started off absolutely loving him but somewhere along the way that love turned to hate. I didn't think there was anything Jessica Hawkins could do to change my mind but after reading this book I may not love Manning but I do understand him a little better.

I loved Lake throughout this series and I loved her even more in this book. She's grown and matured since the last book. I was desperate for Lake to rise back up, mend her broken heart and build a life for herself without her family in this book but I mostly just wanted her to be happy. After losing so much at such a young age, I desperately wanted her to be truly happy.

I found Move The Stars to be a lot less angsty than I was expecting it to be based on the previous books but it still had those emotions kicking in big time. The ending felt a bit rushed to me. I'd have liked an epilogue to give me the closure I wanted and to witness the aftermath but maybe it's for the best that it ended the way it did.

So in a nutshell....
Did I enjoy the journey? Yes.
Did I get the ending I wanted? Yes and no.
Did i get all my answers? Not all of them.
Was I still thinking about it a week after finishing it? 'Fraid so. With a story like Lakes, it's been hard to think about anything else.
Would I recommend this series? Without a doubt, yes!

Release Blitz & Review...Somebody Else's Sky by Jessica Hawkins

Title: Somebody Else's Sky
Series: Something in the Way #2
Author: Jessica Hawkins
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 22, 2017

Blurb

If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.
A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.
Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.
Book two in the Something in the Way series, an epic, 3-book saga of forbidden love...

★★★★★ Five Stars

I need more stars!! Five isn't enough.

I was a wreck before I'd even started this book. I'm talking sweaty palms and heart palpitations. Like most people I'd fallen in love with Lake and Manning and to say I was desperate for more of their story is the understatement of the century. My heart raced manically from start to finish and I don't think I took a proper breath for hours. I'm not going into details at all with this review so it's going to be very vague.

Manning annoyed me so much in this book. The anger I feel towards him is actually quite scary. I'm so mad at him that at this point I don't care what happens with him (my emotions are still running high as I write this). I get why he thinks and did what he did but I don't agree and I wanna slap some sense into him.

Tiffany is the queen of manipulation and I can't stand her. I couldn't in the first book and nothing's changed with this one. I've tried to understand it from her point of view and nope! That's not working for me. I still wanna stick sharp objects in her eyeballs. Repeatedly.

I think the most surprising thing for me with this book is how much I adore Lake. She's so young but at times acts more mature than her elders. She has a quiet sadness that draws you to her and makes you willing to take on the world for her. I'm always all about the men in books so this is a very surreal feeling for me, but I'm definitely #TeamLake. I need her to experience life, to succeed and to be happy. More than anything I need her to be happy.

My advice to you....grab some tissues (just in case), plenty of alcohol and if you treasure your kindle I'd recommend bubble wrap. Lots and lots of bubble wrap. I've lost count of how many times I bounced my kindle off the wall reading this. Also sit close to a wall when reading. It makes it easier to repeatedly bang your head against it. And my poor jaw still hurts. It was clenched that hard for that long, I think I have lockjaw.

The betrayals, the surprises, the angsty-ness of it all, the need for Lake to fight back...it's all a bit too much and not enough at the same time. The conflict is real people! The emotions are real! The sadness, hurt and turmoil are enough to make you feel sick. Jessica Hawkins has an unbelievable talent of writing these emotionally charged scenes that come to life as you read them. Her words wrap around you and drag you into this whole different world and the characters become people we love.

Now I need book three. Now!! I need the conclusion to Lakes story and I already know the wait is going to feel like forever.
